Hola family and friends!!!
How’s life in the states!!! wow!!! so super
duper crazy last couple of weeks!!! it feels like so much has happened I don´t
even have time to write about it!!! so i am now officially in a 3rd world
country…and i know it!!! we walk around
and see peoples homes and places and they are lucky if they have four walls, a
roof and a bed.. They literally have nothing—all the ceilings leak, there are
tons of run down, worn out houses, there is trash everywhere, and tons of pollution
in the air. These people are suffering.. we take sooo much for granted in the
united states, clean air, homes, clothes, food and even clean water. Down here
you have to worry about every single thing you put in your mouth, if its clean
or will make you sick and you feel soooo bad for complaining about your shirt
or whatever when these people wear clothes till they wear through them!!! The other day i was thinking about how much
even $100 would help tons of people down here, to get a new shirt or new shoes,
or even food, and the more we walked around, the more i realized what a lost
cause it would be. Shoes would wear out,
the shirts would get holes, and the food would be eaten and none of it would be
a lasting effect. Then i realized that i have something not even all the money
in the world could buy. I have the
message of the restored Gospel of Jesús Christ and no time or wear could ruin
that.
They don’t
have much, but if i am able to share the blessings of this great gospel with
just a few of them, I will have done my job!!! I want to help them so bad and
the best way i can is with this gospel message i preach, and it’s incredible to
see the recent converts and how they were before, and how happy they are now,
even in the same circumstances!! I think its sooo important to share this
góspel with everyone we come in contact with because they are all children of
God, who wants them to be happy!! sometimes it can be tough. I can’t even communicate
with these people and half the time I don’t even have a clue what I’m saying.
But the important thing is that we try!! we
need to put in effort, and only once we put forth our faith in Christ, will he
bless us!!!! So ya, my first área is called Utatlán and my companions name is
Hermana Hernández!!! she’s super great and i love her, just a Little hard to communicate
with because she doesn’t know any English!! Literally she knows hello, i am
fine, and good night. three phrases!! She’s been out on her mission for 3
months and so we are both newbies and she only technically has one transfer
more experience than me, but she’s awesome!! We eat beans and eggs for every
meal and always only that for breakfast and I’m still not a fan.. i can barely
down a couple of bites before feeling like i need to throw up so i pray for the
gift of foods!! Also you'd think these
people had never seen a White person in their lives and a lot of the drunks
that are all over the place yell and call me mean things,.. I’ve never gotten
hit on more in my life , and the other day we had to run away from one that was
following us and it was pretty sketchy—good thing i took a flippin kung fu
class in college!! i have a feeling it might come in Handy sometime!!
Ward members here are great and are always willing
to help out with everything and give us ice cream!!! since we only have two
meals a day i get pretty hungry and feel like I could eat a hippo but i don’t
really say anything, mostly because I don’t know how to!! so ya, I got
to wash my clothes today by hand, and am getting used to the 100 mosquito
bites I have, even with all the bug spray i use!! It’s crazy. President Russel M. Nelson is in
our mission right now and is speaking to us tomorrow at a conference
which is pretty flippin sweet…can’t wait to hear from him!!!! It’s going
to be awesome!! A lot of the people here try to practice their English with me
but they mostly only know colors, numbers and hello—however, one of
the families that fed us is really good at English and the wife talks to
me all the time!! its nice to take a break from Spanish once in
a while.
But i
love it! It is super hot! super fun!! and super spiritual!!! even though i can
barely say anything, when we’re teaching a lesson the spirit just takes
over and i say words that were not and are still not in my vocabulary
which is super cool. School is starting
up-how fun!! good luck everyone!! hope its awesome— take advantage of that…
down here we’re lucky if the people can read cause if not, it kind of makes the
pamphlets and the book of Mormon pointless— which is super sad!! They’re
missing out on a bunch… so we’re trying to figure out how to help them
with that and i also think that we’re (and by we i mean me)
going to start teaching English so some people that want to learn and i keep hearing
that if you can teach them how to speak English, they can earn over double
of what they can make without it so its actually pretty critical to having a
good future!!! so hopefully i can help!! Also we met some super cute little
girls that were playing soccer and at first they were way timid to talk to me,
but started to and finally passed me the ball and we played and it was
great! When we were leaving the four year old started to cry and
said she didn’t want us to leave which was sad but i promised them I’d
play again and they all ran up and gave us hugs and it was so cute!! The oldest was 7 and the other 6. In this culture they love hugs which I’m not
too sure about and the women kiss your cheek which is also way way WAY out
of my comfort zone but i don’t know how to say that
either!!! Ah…well.. that’s life i suppose…Love you so much and hope you
all have a great week!!!!
Con amor,
Hermana Morris #3
